Weekly Weigh In: Aiming For A No Gain April!

Alexis {Diva on a Diet}'s Offical Weight Watchers Weigh In April 2, 2014I’m taking a cue from my friend Kelley’s instagram post (who, by the way, I also did a Fit Friends Friday feature on!). I’m gonna try to make this a No Gain April! Off to a good start with 1.1 more pounds gone this week!

I was just reviewing my progress reports in the Weight Watchers tracker for the last two weeks. My APs were 35 last week and 30 this week, so not too far off. But I find it interesting that I lost more weight last week, and I used up all my weeklies and APs except one. This week, I only ended up using 3 APs and lost less. You just never know, do ya? It’s not an exact science, but it work! That’s why you just gotta stay the course!

Ok, so I didn’t exactly do that the last 6 or so months. And, ok, so those months were pretty rough. But man, ya’ll, I really feel like I am getting back into my old habits again, and it feels great!

I’m still not entirely perfect, but I just make better choices, and I’m tracking everything, and I know I will feel better when I work out, so I do it! I even end up surprising myself by pushing myself when I just don’t think I have it in me! It’s super-fab!

So this past week, I’ve sort of been cleaning my freezer out of the more processed foods I had in there. Yes, by eating them! I’m fairly certain my sodium intake was pretty high! (Hmmm, maybe why I had a little bit less of a loss this week?) But starting this week, I’m trying to focus on eating less processed foods and making sure I get enough protein.

Nope, I am not going to be one of those people who never has processed foods again… I’m still not perfect! But it has come to my attention that I’m relying on prepared foods way too much lately, and we all know that eating natural, unprocessed foods is better for you, not to mention, I don’t need all that sodium!

So yesterday, I checked the grocery store weekly ads flyer and stocked up on fresh fruits and veggies, eggs, center cut pork chops, chicken cutlets, and lean ground beef… almost all on sale! Now to find recipes to make something out of all of this. Good thing I’m a recipe hoarder! It is hard when it’s only one person, with most meat in packages over a pound and recipes with 4 or more servings. But I’m going to try to half the recipes (especially useful if they end up sucky!), and I can always freeze the rest of the meat and use it later.

And because I’m not perfect, I chose a few “lesser” processed prepared items, like Chobani Simply 100 Greek Yogurt, Valley Fresh 100% Natural Chicken Breast (canned), Amy’s Organic Low Fat Cream of Tomato Soup (it’s high in sodium, but will do in a pinch), Lean Cuisine Honestly Good 100% All Natural Pomegranate Chicken (haven’t tried this one yet), and Amy’s Pesto Tortellini Bowl (haven’t tried this yet either, and it’s a little high in fat and saturated fat, but a fast Meatless Monday meal!).

So oh yeah, as you can see, there’s some yogurt, cream in the soup, and cheese in the tortellini in that list. Well, I have definitely cut back on dairy like I said I would last week. I so did not meet the Healthy Guideline checks for that. I’ve upped my calcium supplement to make up for it and figure I must be getting some from the veggies I eat. I mean, I know people who don’t eat dairy who are perfectly healthy, and the advice to cut it out came from my doctor, so I don’t think it will kill me! But as much as I was advised to try to avoid it entirely, I still just can’t entirely cut it all out! Has just cutting back helped? No clue! Especially since…

Guess what?… I think I may have a sinus infection! Well maybe. I have something! I have been partially under the weather for 10 days now, and it’s starting to get worse… To the point where I just can’t drag my butt out to work out anymore. My body is screaming at me… REST!!! So off to the doctor I go today. So much for my 8K training once again. It never fails! So, I’m bummed. and I don’t feel good, but I’m determined to make the most of this week!

So do you plan on having a “No Gain April?” Anyone have any experience with cutting back on or eliminating dairy? Anyone try any of the foods I got on my shopping trip?

  1. I’m lactose intolerant so for me not having dairy is my daily way of eating. I find that a lot of supermarkets are starting to do their own version of dairy items without the lactose in. Thats quite good. Also I find that I have to have more natural foods and if have any processed one they are usually ones that are made from healthier foods like eat natural and nakd bars

I still tend to have sinus issues even when I don’t eat dairy, so I’m not quite convinced I need to cut it all out! I have tried almond cheese, and it’s not bad in recipes, but on it’s own… it’s just not cheese. And I like cheese with my wine! ;) But I figure eating less of it won’t hurt! And I definitely plan to eat less processed too. That’s just good all around. Thanks for the feedback!

I notice on your blog the ad about 5 foods you should never eat and it shows the banana. I’ve pull this website up several times and I never find out if the banana is one of the 5 foods, without having to pay. Do you have any insight to this.

Hi Rose. Thanks for visiting my blog. The ad you are referring to is through google, and I am not able to control what ads appear. Therefore, I am sorry I am not able to shed any more light on the subject. I would venture to say that the banana is likely not one of them, as I know many people who are healthy who eat bananas! I personally don’t subscribe to anything being of limits either. Sorry I couldn’t be of more help!
