Featured Fit Friends Friday: Nikki from My Life My Way

Happy Friday everyone! I am so excited because today is the first installment of my brand new weekly series FEATURED FIT FRIENDS FRIDAY! I just recently “met” this inspiring blogger when she stumbled upon my blog and became a follower! I am delighted to share her story! Read on to find out more about my newest virtual friend!

Why did you start blogging? What is the goal/purpose of your blog?
I started blogging the first time back in 2011 when I was married to my now ex-husband. I had to shut down that blog for a while, while I was going through my divorce. I came back to blogging March of 2012 and have been non stop ever since.

How did you come up with your blog name?
I came up with my blog name after my divorce went through, and I decided that it was now time to live My Life My Way.

When not blogging, what do you do?
I am a longshoreman by day and a group fitness instructor by night. I blog whenever I have time. I have two puppies: Rylie, who is a VERY active almost 2 year old Boston Terrier/Beagle mix, and then there is also Zoe, who is an almost 4 year old Chihuahua. You will hear my refer to them as the girls on my blog.

Are you attending (have you attended) any blogger conferences?
I have not been to any but I want to!

Have you met up in person with anyone you’ve met through your blog or other social media?
I have meet up with Jaime from Just A Jersey Girl, and I have a “blate” with Niki from Glossy Blonde in September, and I can’t wait to meet her. I am also IRL BFFs with Ali from Life in My Crazy World.

What things have you learned from blogging that you would like to share with other bloggers?
Oh man what a question! I have learned so much from all my fellow bloggers! I have learned about beauty products that I knew nothing about. I learned about an amazing planner that I swear by now. I have learned about crafting and making my house more of a home. I have learned how to do a photo wall, among other amazing things!

What is your favorite fitness activity?
I am a group fitness instructor by night. I teach Les Mills BodyCombat, and I LOVE IT! I also love to go for a nice run, and I also love to lift. I also enjoy taking my girl for a walk or for a hike. I have recently picked up biking. I also love to play indoor and beach volleyball.

Have you always been an active person, or is health/fitness something you found later in life?
I wish I could say that I have always been a active person, but truth be told I did not become active till high school when I picked up volleyball. I had always been overweight, and when I got into my early to mid 20’s, I finally decided it was time to loose weight and get my crap together and get healthy!

What’s your favorite fitness gear?
I love my compression capris from Old Navy and a simple tank top from Target. I also love a good pair of Nikes.

When did you start running?
I started running in September of 2011.

How many races, if any, have you run?
I have done a 5K and an 8K, and I am doing the NYC Color Run at the end of August, along with the NJ Color Run in September.

What was your favorite race?
So far my favorite race was the 8K. I was so proud of myself for setting a goal and reaching it. I have a feeling the funnest race will be the 2 Color Runs that I have coming up.

Do you struggle with your weight?
Since loosing weight, thankfully I have not put any of my weight back on! I have lost a total of 130 pounds to date.

What is your eating philosophy?
My eating philosophy is very simple. I eat as clean as I can, but that is not to say that I do not enjoy a good cupcake or glass of wine from time to time. I do not “banish” anything from my diet. I look at it as I can and will eat anything and everything in moderation. Generally I will eat lean protein and complex carbs. I try to limit the amount of sugar I take in, and I usually stay away from white bread or white rice or regular pasta. I am not perfect, and I do eat that from time to time, but again it’s just in moderation.

Favorite snack?
Peanut Butter Energy Bites are my FAVORITE go to snacks!

Favorite breakfast?
I enjoy some oatmeal on a cold morning or a nice 1 full egg 2 additional egg white omelet loaded with veggies like peppers, onions, spinach, mushrooms and turkey sausage crumble.

Favorite lunch?
One of my favorite and go to lunches is Avocado Chicken Salad.

Favorite dinner?
A dinner I LOVE to make is Grilled Chicken Puttanesca over a little bit of Whole Wheat Pasta.

Favorite place to get recipes from on the internet?
I get a lot of my recipes from Pinterest, however I tend to tweak them a bit to fit my personal taste.

Favorite blogs in general?
Oh my gosh, this is another hard question for me to answer because I have so many favorite blogs! Some of them, and believe me this is just a few of them…

Do you use any smart phone apps that you find helpful?
Some of my favorite iPhone apps are MapMyRUN, Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, iFunny, G-Whizz, Pandora, Us, just to name a few.

Are you a product or fitness ambassador?
I have applied to be a FitFluential Ambassador but have yet to hear back from them, and I am patiently waiting to apply to be a Sweat Pink Ambassador.

Are there any other tips/advice/achievements you would like to share?
